Job summary

STEMCELL Technologies Inc. in Cambridge, UK, seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead sustaining engineering for cell-sorting instruments, driving DFM-led design and collaborating with optics and electronics teams to ensure manufacturability and reliability.

The candidate will have a mechanical engineering degree with 6–10 years of relevant experience (or higher degrees with fewer years), strong SolidWorks skills, GD&T proficiency, and experience in regulated environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 6–10 years' relevant experience, or advanced degrees with proportionally fewer years.
• Experience applying DFM/DFA to transition designs to production and conducting risk assessments (e.g. dfMEAs).
• Experience in regulated environments or ISO 13485 with engineering change control, RCA, and design verification.
• Proficiency with CAD (SolidWorks) for 3D mechanical design and drawings.
• Advanced GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and dimensional metrology knowledge.
• Strong communication and collaboration to translate optical requirements into mechanical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead sustaining engineering for current instruments and manage lifecycle updates.
• Manage supplier evaluation, design transfer, and quality verification with suppliers.
• Collaborate with optical physicists and electronics engineers to support alignments, stiffness, tolerances, and thermal stability.
• Drive quality initiatives in regulated environment via RCA and CAPA.
• Provide DFM input for future instrument development to ensure manufacturability and cost-efficiency.
• Design, develop, and test precision mechanical and electro-mechanical systems using SolidWorks.
