Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the SIXEP Waste Management Receipt Facility for nuclear waste handling. You will work in a regulated environment, contributing to concept design and detailed specifications for mechanical handling and associated systems.

The role requires extensive post-graduate experience in a regulated industry, preferably nuclear, plus a relevant engineering degree.

Qualifications

• Significant post-graduate work experience in a highly regulated industry, ideally some in the nuclear sector.
• Degree qualification or equivalent in a relevant technical or business discipline.
• Detail design knowledge of mechanical mechanisms or bespoke equipment for nuclear use.
• Demonstrated commitment to maintaining skills and knowledge at the forefront of the field, with safety, quality and regulatory standards awareness.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to design and specification of mechanical handling systems in a regulated environment.
• Specify high integrity building cranes and shield doors, piping and tanks for nuclear waste storage/transfer.
• Assess and select remote deployed COTS and bespoke equipment for waste handling.
• Support early-stage concept design and create mechanical handling and sequencing diagrams for HAZOPs.
• Coordinate underground/above-ground services diversions including water and steam.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver safe, compliant solutions.
