Location – London

Joining Arup

Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

The Opportunity

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Chartered Mechanical Engineer to work in the data centre sector. If you thrive on technically stimulating work and have a passion for cutting-edge projects, we invite you to join our creative and friendly Building Engineering Team in London as a permanent member.

As part of our team, you’ll be involved in shaping some of the most innovative buildings worldwide. We work with all the major cloud services providers and many of the larger colocation and developers in the DC industry. Our team is actively engaged in global projects, spanning from the initial feasibility stage to the practical completion. Arup’s data centre team is a global network of Architects, Engineers and Specialist Consultants working with the largest and most innovative businesses in the sector. Whilst many projects are Data Centre focussed, there are many opportunities for involvement in other Critical Facility projects including Healthcare.

The role will see you:

  1. Directing the comfort and thermal analysis of buildings and spaces
  2. Supervising the spatial and technical co-ordination of building services and integration into the design
  3. Managing the production of models, drawings, reports and specifications to budgets and deadlines
  4. Supervising and coordinating the work of others, including other disciplines and in-house specialists

Is this role right for you?

We’re looking for a candidate who:

  1. Is a Chartered Engineer in the field of Building Services and has hands-on experience in systems, installations, and various project sectors (specifically DC and mission critical)
  2. Supports the performance, growth, and development of others by providing guidance, training, and constructive feedback
  3. Demonstrates knowledge and passion for sustainable building design, focusing on energy efficiency and carbon reduction. Actively challenges themselves and collaborates with the design team to achieve optimal project outcomes
  4. Has strong commercial awareness, with experience in predicting, planning, and managing resource requirements to achieve financial targets
  5. Is proficient in using energy modeling software, ideally IES, and 3D modelling software, Revit.
