Job summary

Essar Oil (UK) Limited seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Stanlow site, providing expert mechanical asset integrity support and leading reliability improvements. You will work with Operations, Maintenance and Projects to ensure safe, compliant and efficient operation of critical equipment, including static and rotating assets.

The role requires a degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, with extensive experience in refining or petrochemical environments.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Significant experience in refining, petrochemical, or major process industries.
• Strong knowledge of static equipment (pressure vessels, piping, heat exchangers, tanks, boilers, furnaces).
• Experience with rotating equipment support and multi-disciplinary teams.
• Proven repair methodologies, engineering assessments, and MoC documentation.
• Familiarity with industry codes and standards (API, ASME, British Standards).
• Experience with reliability programmes, risk-based inspection, and root cause analyses.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management and technical reporting skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and assurance for mechanical asset integrity and plant modifications.
• Support complex equipment failure resolution and out-of-hours assistance.
• Develop repair strategies, scopes of work, and technical assessments; approve concessions and deviations.
• Support MoC, risk assessments, inspection activities and compliance processes.
• Contribute to reliability initiatives and maintenance optimization programs.
• Assist capital planning and manage maintenance spend and turnarounds.
• Coach and mentor engineers and promote engineering excellence.
• Ensure compliance with COMAH, PSSR, ATEX and PUWER.
