Job summary

ASMPT in Weymouth is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for a 12-month FTC. You will concept and deliver mechanical designs for SMT printing systems, leading cross-functional projects in a dynamic R&D environment.

The role requires a strong background in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, and experience with CAD/PLM tools. You will contribute to safety, sustainability, and scalable solutions while mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with global teams.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or Chartered Engineer with mid-level to senior experience.
  • Experience with design and assembly of manufacturing processes and tolerances.
  • Knowledge of CREO, Windchill, NX CAD and PLM systems.
  • Familiarity with BS8888 and ISO8015 is beneficial.
  • Strong communication and leadership in cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver mechanical designs for SMT printing machines and modules.
  • Conduct analyses and risk assessments for complex projects.
  • Define project requirements and lead investigations to meet goals.
  • Prepare documentation, reports, drawings and specifications for complex tasks.
  • Lead meetings, share information, and mentor colleagues.
  • Ensure safety, sustainability and maintainability in design solutions.

The Role:

As the range of projects that we work on grow, so does our team! We are currently looking to hire a Senior Mechanical Engineer in our R&D department at our coastal office in Weymouth. In this role will, you will conceptualise and deliver the mechanical design of SMT printing machines and the associated modules.

You Will:
  • Develop new designs, processes or systems based on new or evolving technology.
  • Carry out complex and/or nonstandard technical analyses.
  • Conducting technical risk analysis and identify mitigation measures.
  • Take an active role in the identification and definition of project requirements, problems, and opportunities.
  • Identify the appropriate investigations and research needed to undertake the design, development and analysis required to complete an engineering task and conduct these activities effectively.
  • Implementing design solutions, taking account of critical constraints, including due concern for safety, sustainability, and disposal, or decommissioning as well as scalability and maintainability
  • Lead and assist others to meet changing technical and managerial needs.
  • Exchange information and provide advice to technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Lead, Chair, Contribute and record meetings and discussions.
  • Prepare reports, drawings, specifications, and other documentation on complex matters.
  • Prepare proposals, or studies, Identifying, agreeing, and leading work towards collective goals.
  • Understand the safety implications of the role and manage, apply, and improve safe systems of work.
  • Carry out and record the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to maintain and enhance competence.
About You:

We’re looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our team!

You Will Have:
  • Master’s Degree in a technical discipline / equivalent level 7 qualification with mid-level experience. Or Batchelor’s Degree Level 6 qualification with senior level experience, Or Chartered Engineer with mid-level experience
  • High level understanding of the functional interdependencies of dynamic mechanical, electromechanical, and mechatronic systems
  • Proven experience in the definition, design and, assembly of manufacturing processes, costs, and geometric tolerances
  • Knowledge of CREO, Windchill and NX CAD tool, and EDM systems such as Teamcenter PLM
  • High level knowledge of BS8888 and or ISO8015
  • Good knowledge of the product creation and change management processes.
  • Competent in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • DFM and DFA knowledge
  • Knowledge of SAP (Desirable)
  • FEA static linear analysis skills-(Desirable)
