Job Summary

The Equinix EMEA Data Center Operations team is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to assist with projects across our EMEA data centers. The Mechanical Engineer performs the planning, system design, system implementation, system maintenance, and support. Leads small-scale projects and the rollout of engineering initiatives. Assists with the development of engineering design standards, policies, and procedures. Effectively interacts with other internal and external teams, including design engineering, site engineering, construction management, regional operations teams, onsite support vendors, and consultants on projects, policies, and procedures. Assists in planning and directing day-to-day operations and strategic direction of delivery for construction projects or operations for a Data Center facility.

Responsibilities

1. Ensure Company SLA for reliability and performance is maintained at all times
2. Energy management and sustainability of engineering infrastructure
3. Evaluate, maintain, and modify existing installed systems to ensure continuous reliability, performance, and efficiency
4. Collaborate with design engineers, technical facilities teams, operations engineers, and other internal staff on the design, specification, installation, testing, and commissioning of new systems (within a live environment)
5. Negotiate with suppliers and contractors concerning new and installed systems
6. Assist site-based Engineers with troubleshooting and problem solving. Act as the point of contact during incident escalation, perform in-depth fault finding and Root Cause Analysis
7. Provide technical advice and consultancy support to local TFM Teams
8. Ensure preventative maintenance is performed according to company standards through regular audits and site inspections for critical systems
9. Promote and utilize the company CMMS, Maximo, for proactive maintenance of critical assets
10. Ensure compliance with safe working systems, safety regulations, and quality standards of both the company and the country of work
11. Provide written and verbal instructions to installation contractors/sub-contractors
12. Document installations, modifications, and audit site documentation for accuracy
13. Support site-based engineers with a hands-on approach
14. Write method statements, risk assessments, regression plans, switching schedules, technical reports, and program plans
15. Lead Data Centers Physicals and conduct Data Centers Mini-Physicals, ensuring action items are closed out within each country
16. Sign-off for FAT of new equipment/engineering assets and SAT/IST of systems
17. Ensure TFM compliance and follow processes for Incident Management, Customer Maintenance Requests, Internal Incident Reporting, and Customer Incident Reports using Remedy reporting tool

Qualifications

1. Technical degree or equivalent experience. Competent with Mechanical Services, Chillers, and HVAC
2. Strong written and verbal communication skills
3. Self-starter with the ability to work independently and in teams
4. Proficient in MS Office, including Visio
5. Willingness to travel across European sites
6. Relevant experience in a data center environment
7. Experience with Chillers and CRACs in data centers
8. Language skills in French, Dutch, or German
9. Experience with Medium Voltage (including Authorized Person) and Low Voltage electrical systems
10. Experience with Building Management Systems and SCADA
11. AutoCAD proficiency
