Job description

NavLive
is a spin-out from the University of Oxford, backed by award-winning technology and algorithms. We are developing real-time spatial AI solutions for the construction and geospatial industries.

We use real-time multi-sensor fusion and high-precision positioning technology to build 3D models of indoor and outdoor environments in real-time. Our tech can infer what has changed and provide insights to facility owners or site decision-makers. We want to recruit a senior mechanical engineer to help us develop our products and scale our operations with partners in the above-mentioned sectors.

Are you interested in joining a rapidly growing start-up to develop advanced technology which will revolutionise how companies monitor their assets, make decisions and measure the real world?

Tasks

As the Senior Mechanical Engineer at NavLive, you will be responsible for many facets of the physical delivery of our product: from concept, design, build, scaling and delivery.

Your role as a Senior Mechanical Engineer will involve:

  • Leading Mechanical Design:
Ownership of all future hardware New Product Innovation and Development (NPI/NPD), driving complex geometry design and hardware integration from concept to production.
  • Managing Hardware Operations:
Overseeing end-to-end operations including Bill of Materials (BOM) management, inventory reconciliation, and the design of custom operational tools.
  • Supply Chain & Logistics:
Managing global supply chain logistics, procurement, and navigating international shipping regulations.
  • System Simulation:
Conducting mechanical validation and thermal simulations for high-performance compute modules
  • Product Certification:
Leading compliance and certification processes for global markets, specifically CE, FCC, UKCA and other markets.
  • Scaling Production:
Transitioning hardware operations from small-batch manufacturing into a professional, high-yield production environment.
  • Mentorship:
Leading and mentoring a growing multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Small Batch Prototyping and Production:
Building small-batch prototypes or production units and conducting factory acceptance tests when needed.
Requirements
  • CAD Proficiency:
5+ years of advanced CAD design experience, with expertise in SolidWorks and 3DEXPERIENCE.
  • Educational Background:
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Product Design.
  • Technical Expertise:
Expert mechanical engineering knowledge coupled with a solid understanding of electronics and hardware integration.
  • Production Experience:
Proven hands-on experience in manufacturing, production scaling, and procurement, preferably within a startup environment.

The following are desirable skills and traits:

  • Sensor Integration:
Experience working with and integrating computer vision hardware, GPS, and advanced LiDAR sensors into custom devices.
  • Product Experience:
Experience working with industrial or consumer products.
  • Ability for Independent Work:
Ability to completely own and manage many workflows and communicate to the rest of the team.
  • AI-Augmented Workflows:
Familiarity with leveraging AI tools to enhance daily engineering workflows, automate routine processes, and build custom operational systems to drive overall team efficiency.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary offering
  • 25 days of paid annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Salary pension exchange scheme
  • A dynamic fast-moving work environment based in central Oxford
  • On-the-job training in cutting-edge robotics and AI
  • Annual performance and salary review
  • Employee share options

Flexibility

This role involves on-site and in-person time, but we structure our working week to enable hybrid work arrangements (working from home 1-2 days per week). We value excellent work more highly than working on-site.

Our working week is centred around a set of core working hours, but we offer extra flexibility for candidates with specific personal constraints.

Diversity and Inclusion

Our company thrives on diverse inputs from people of different backgrounds, skill sets, and points of view. We embrace individuality and aim to offer the flexibility demanded by the modern digital workforce.
