Job description

Senior Mechanical Engineer
Your Impact

You will be working on sophisticated industrial monitoring, diagnostics, communications, and protection systems used throughout the electrical power industry. These products combine advanced sensing technologies, embedded electronics, communications networks, and software platforms to monitor critical infrastructure across power generation, transmission, and distribution.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, development, validation, and support of complex enclosures and electromechanical assemblies for mission‑critical applications. Working closely with Systems, Electrical, Firmware, Software, Test, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Sales, Product Management, and Quality teams, you will develop robust, manufacturable, and cost‑effective solutions that meet demanding requirements for thermal performance, structural integrity, environmental survivability, reliability, serviceability, and regulatory compliance.

You will contribute throughout the complete product lifecycle, from concept development and architecture through detailed design, simulation, verification, release, and sustaining engineering. This role is intended for an experienced engineer operating with a high degree of independence who is capable of solving complex technical challenges, leading significant engineering work packages, and acting as a recognised technical resource within the organisation.

Here’s Where You’ll Demonstrate Your Proficiencies
  • Lead the mechanical design and development of complex electromechanical products, assemblies, enclosures, and mounting systems used in demanding industrial and utility environments.
  • Own enclosure and assembly designs from concept through production release, ensuring performance, manufacturability, serviceability, reliability, and cost objectives are achieved.
  • Develop detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, manufacturing drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.
  • Perform tolerance analysis, stack‑up analysis, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) assessments.
  • Conduct thermal, structural, shock, vibration, and modal analysis using analytical and simulation‑based methods.
  • Lead thermal management design activities for embedded electronics, communications equipment, industrial computing platforms, sensors, and power electronics.
  • Develop and validate mitigation strategies for thermal, shock, vibration, transportation, and environmental stresses affecting product performance and long‑term reliability.
  • Support environmental qualification activities including vibration, shock, ingress protection (IP), temperature cycling, humidity, transportation, and accelerated life testing.
  • Work closely with Electrical, Firmware, Software, Systems, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to ensure successful product integration.
  • Drive root‑cause investigations and corrective actions related to mechanical, thermal, reliability, manufacturing, and field performance issues.
  • Support supplier selection, manufacturing readiness, value engineering, and cost optimisation initiatives.
  • Own mechanical product structures, Bills of Materials (BOMs), drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Drive Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), deviation requests, and product release activities in accordance with company processes.
  • Lead change impact assessments covering product performance, manufacturability, cost, quality, supply chain, reliability, compliance, and installed‑base considerations.
  • Ensure accurate configuration management and control of mechanical designs through PLM, ERP, PDM, and engineering data management systems.
  • Support Sales, Product Management, and Application Engineering teams in evaluating customer‑specific requirements, special modifications, and product variation requests.
