Job summary

Rayner Surgical Group is seeking a Senior Mechanical Development Engineer to lead the design and lifecycle management of ophthalmic surgical products, including Phaco accessories and VR instruments. This on-site role at Worthing HQ collaborates with surgeons, researchers, and suppliers to drive robust DHFs and verification activities.

You will own product performance, lead supplier qualification and manufacturing transfer, and deliver evidence-based design changes within a regulated

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline with regulated medical device experience.
• Experience creating and maintaining DHFs and design history documentation.
• Experience leading supplier qualification or manufacturing transfer projects.
• Strong CAD skills and ability to produce engineering reports.

Responsibilities

• Acts as the technical lead and SME for the Phaco accessory and VR instrument portfolio, providing ownership throughout the product lifecycle from new product development to sustaining engineering.
• Leads the mechanical design and development of new products, technologies, and product enhancements from concept through design transfer and commercial release.
• Takes ownership of product performance, manufacturability, reliability, and ongoing design improvements.
• Supports product lifecycle management activities, including design changes, obsolescence management, supplier changes, and continuous improvement projects.
• Provides technical leadership for cross-functional project teams.
