RPS has over 20 years of collaboration with United Utilities on innovative projects. As we approach AMP8, this is an exciting time to work in the water industry, creating positive change.

Under this 10-year framework, RPS will optimize programs, develop solutions, and select the best options based on value, carbon footprint, and cost, aiming to deliver exceptional water services and promote a resilient, eco-friendly Northwest.

About The Team:

We also work with several major UK water companies under long-term frameworks, with ongoing AMP8 programmes leading into AMP9 and beyond, ensuring long-term career stability.

About You:

You should have experience producing technical outputs such as specifications, pump and aeration system designs, schedules, and reports. Familiarity with collaborative planning, design reviews, and safety assessments like HAZOPs is essential.

You will provide engineering input for design outputs, including General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models, and P&ID diagrams. Strong communication skills for technical presentations and collaborative discussions are required, along with understanding water and wastewater treatment processes and assessing site infrastructure.

Joining us means working on impactful projects, collaborating with leading professionals, and leaving a legacy in the UK water industry. If you're eager to contribute your skills in a dynamic environment, we invite you to apply.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Work on projects across long-term frameworks with UK water companies.
  • Achieve positive project and community outcomes.
  • Support project delivery alongside Senior and Principal Engineers.
  • Mentor or guide junior team members.
  • Understand technical drawings using AutoCAD and/or Inventor.
  • Undertake asset condition surveys and prepare reports.
  • Contribute to P&ID production.
  • Prepare mechanical design deliverables: calculations, reports, specifications, drawings, schedules, procurement docs.
  • Support compliance with CDM duties and produce design risk assessments.
  • Follow Quality Assurance procedures.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Water industry experience is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of pump design and selection, P&ID creation, specifications, and safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with procurement methods like NEC contracts.
  • Ability to manage work to time, cost, and quality standards.
  • Support for junior staff development.
  • Willingness to travel to operational sites and witness testing.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar software is a plus.
Qualifications:
  • An IMechE-accredited degree; postgraduate qualifications are a plus.
  • Chartered or working towards chartership for senior/principal roles.
  • Membership or eligibility with professional bodies like IET, InstMC, or CIWEM.
