Job summary

Domino Printing Sciences seeks an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of new products in our Cambridge R&D team. Hybrid role with office attendance at least 3 days per week, focusing on robust mechanical solutions and manufacturability across precision inkjet and fluid systems.

You will drive prototypes, testing, and verification while mentoring multidisciplinary teams. A degree in Mechanical Engineering and SolidWorks proficiency are essential for this role.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience in mechanical product design and development within a commercial environment.
• Proven track record delivering products through the full development lifecycle from concept to production.
• Strong proficiency in 3D CAD design and engineering drawings, ideally using SolidWorks.
• Sound knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials selection, manufacturing processes, and geometric tolerancing.
• Experience designing and developing mechanical systems, mechanisms, moving assemblies, or electro-mechanical products.
• Hands-on prototyping, testing, verification activities, and root cause investigation.
• Understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating within multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience in precision engineering, industrial printing, inkjet, automation, robotics, high-speed machinery, media transport, or thermal management would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of new products, technologies and product enhancements, taking ownership from concept through to production.
• Develop innovative mechanical solutions and architectures that meet product, customer and business requirements.
• Create high-quality CAD models, drawings and technical documentation, applying sound engineering principles to mechanisms, materials, manufacturing processes and tolerancing.
• Lead prototyping, testing and design verification activities, using structured problem solving and root-cause analysis to address technical challenges.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Operations and suppliers to deliver robust, manufacturable and cost-effective designs, championing Design for Manufacture and Assembly principles.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring while working across multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative product solutions.
