Materials Analysis is an Oxford Instruments Business Unit that manages our Electron Microscopy and Mechanical Microscopy products, Atomic Force Microscopes, Raman Microscopes, and Benchtop NMR Products. We are part of the wider Oxford Instruments Group, which also includes Andor Technology, NanoScience, Plasma Technology, and X-Ray Technology. With a sixty-year history and fourteen Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, our world-class products and technologies help our customers address some of the greatest challenges of the 21st century.

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Product Development team. The main responsibilities include the mechanical design and detailing of high-precision new parts and sub-assemblies. You should be proficient in leading the mechanical design of new products, sub-systems, assemblies, and customer solutions, and comfortable working independently without supervision.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with marketing to ensure designs meet customer requirements while seeking creative, low-cost mechanical solutions
  • Work closely with technologists, systems engineers, and other developers to optimize engineering solutions
  • Specify and document designs, including requirement specifications, layouts, detail & assembly drawings, Bills of Materials, etc.
  • Coordinate with supply chain and suppliers during the specification and procurement of mechanical parts
  • Assist manufacturing and service departments with new product introductions and existing product issues
  • Manage engineering changes using official ECR/ECO/BP procedures in our PLM tool

Our location is in High Wycombe on the Cressex Business Park, with a hybrid working model of 3 days in the office and 2 days at home.
