Job summary

Jackie Kerr Recruitment in Oxfordshire is seeking a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to own end-to-end product design from concept through to volume manufacture. You will lead architecture decisions, integrate sub-systems, and drive design-for-manufacture across suppliers.

The role requires hands-on CAD work (SolidWorks), strong mathematical analysis, and mentoring of junior engineers, with a focus on quality, reliability, and on-time delivery within ISO 9001 frameworks.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience designing multiple products for high volume/MPM production
• Ownership of complete products, assemblies or subsystems
• Strong 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks) and tolerancing knowledge

Responsibilities

• Design architectures and interfaces to meet Product Briefs
• Create and maintain 2D drawings, data sheets and regulatory information
• Perform detailed design and integration of parts into complete systems
• Conduct feasibility studies and FMEA to minimize risks early in design
• Design for Manufacture (DFM) with external suppliers and internal teams
• Create prototypes and testing plans; write clear test reports
