Job summary

A leading defence organization is seeking experienced Principal Mechanical Design Engineers for roles based in Stevenage. You will lead mechanical design work on critical defence products, ensuring performance and safety requirements are met. Ideal candidates will have a degree in Mechanical Engineering and proven leadership in multi-disciplinary teams. This role offers a salary circa £50,000+, hybrid working, and opportunities for career progression within the organization.

Qualifications

• Proven experience across full product life cycles from concept to in-service support.
• Understanding of structural, thermal, and/or dynamic analysis is advantageous.
• Strong experience in mechanical design within multi-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of mechanical solutions for complex weapons and weapon systems.
• Provide technical leadership and drive design maturity.
• Influence design decisions across the full life cycle.

Skills

Proven ability to lead mechanical design work packages

Strong communication skills

Robust hands-on experience with design methodologies

In-depth knowledge of design proving and qualification activities

Experience engaging with suppliers and external partners

Ability to manage priorities and assess risk

Education

Degree, HND, or HNC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

Tools

3D CAD/CAE experience
