Job summary

RGB in Cardiff is seeking an Intermediate or Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its independent building services consultancy. The role involves mechanical design across a varied portfolio of projects from concept through to completion, with hybrid working and clear progression opportunities.

You'll have a degree in Mechanical/Building Services Engineering and demonstrable experience in mechanical building services design, with emphasis on heating, cooling, ventilation and public health

Qualifications

• A degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience designing mechanical building services systems across commercial, residential, industrial or other building projects.
• Knowledge of heating, cooling, ventilation, air conditioning and public health systems.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking mechanical and public health building services design across projects of varying sizes and sectors.
• Producing mechanical drawings, specifications, technical documents and engineering calculations.
• Designing building services systems, including heating, cooling, ventilation, air conditioning, hot and cold water, and above-ground drainage.
• Liaising with clients, contractors, architects and other consultants to coordinate design requirements.
• Providing technical input and resolving engineering challenges throughout the design process.
• Coordinating mechanical design deliverables to ensure projects meet agreed programmes, budgets and quality standards.
• Undertaking feasibility studies, sustainability assessments, site surveys and technical reporting.
• Reviewing designs to ensure compliance with relevant British and European standards, regulations and contractual requirements.
• Working alongside other engineering disciplines to coordinate designs and contribute to project meetings.
• Supporting project cost management, preparing design cost estimates and contributing to bid preparation.
• Assessing CDM risks and supporting the management of design hazards.
• Supporting and mentoring junior engineers, where appropriate.
• Contributing to the development of engineering standards and best practices.
• Identifying opportunities to improve energy efficiency and deliver sustainable, low-carbon solutions.
