Senior Mechanical Design Engineer £up to 50k + Benefits

An experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (electro-mechanical/electrical/mechanical engineer) is urgently required to join a growing R&D team for a novel technology STEM organisation.
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will use your mechanical design engineering and electrical expertise to lead and develop new system designs (equipment/machinery) concepts and technology solutions from idea through to commercially viable solutions for the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical & electrical engineering activities supporting the detailed design and development of machinery/systems equipment.
- Support communication with internal teams (notably the US team) and contracted engineers to create functional project solutions.
- Collaborate with suppliers on the design, manufacture, and delivery of production line components.
- Lead prototyping and design verification testing to support design, optimization, cost reduction, and quality improvement.
- Design and implement approaches to design verification, prototyping, materials selection, and testing.
- Integrate new technologies into production lines and new product development, as well as fault-finding and improvements on existing products and systems.
- Assist with the design, development, and operation of the company's UK pilot line.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to optimize production line manufacturability, cost, and quality.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of commercial mechanical systems and future technology trends.
- Pyrolysis experience in both large and small scale operations is essential.
- Proficient in CAD software, ideally SolidWorks & Navisworks (certification preferred). Experience with other CAD software is a plus.
- Desirable: Experience in drafting and delivering mechanical and electrical drawings (e.g., P&IDs, Process Flow Diagrams, Electrical One Line Diagrams).
- Hands-on experience developing prototypes through to validation of commercial systems.
- Experience managing external partners, technical briefs, problem-solving, and reporting.
- Project and budget management skills are beneficial.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management System and related processes.
- Experience designing machinery for explosive environments (ATEX) and knowledge of HAZOPs.
- Familiarity with industrial standards (ISO, IEC, ASME/ASTM) and regulations.
- Knowledge of machinery control systems, PLC/HMI, 3-phase motors, and VFDs.
- Understanding of EPC document approval processes.
Full-time, permanent, onsite role with up to £50k base salary + benefits, 25 days annual leave.
