Job Description

Binnies, part of the RSK Group, is seeking talented and driven Senior/Principal Mechanical Design Engineers to join our expanding UK Delivery business. We are proud to work on some of the most essential water and wastewater infrastructure projects both in the UK and overseas.

In this role, you will work collaboratively on the full lifecycle of engineering projects—from concept through to construction—across clean water and wastewater schemes. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute meaningfully to projects that matter, within a supportive and flexible working environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical engineering deliverables including drawings, specifications, datasheets, and reports
• Carry out detailed mechanical design including equipment sizing, selection, and layout
• Coordinate multidisciplinary design inputs including P&IDs and ensure integration into overall project designs
• Provide technical support across design, procurement, site delivery, and commissioning phases
• Review and assess subcontractor designs and technical bids
• Mentor junior engineers and support professional development across the team
• Oversee and manage project design budgets, schedules, and quality standards
• Ensure compliance with in-house quality systems, CDM regulations, and industry best practices
• Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field
• Minimum of 8 years’ experience in mechanical design within the water or related infrastructure sectors
• Demonstrable experience in the design of clean and wastewater engineering systems
• Strong knowledge of equipment specification, hydraulic design, layout development, and multidisciplinary collaboration
• Experience with industry standards, procurement processes, and document control
• Highly motivated, proactive, and able to work independently in multi-disciplinary teams
• Strong communication skills and high computer literacy

Desirable Qualifications

• Chartered or Incorporated status (CEng / IEng) with a recognised institution (e.g. IMechE)
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities in technical teams
• Passion for mentoring and skills development
• A continuous improvement mindset and interest in staying up to date with engineering innovations
