Job Description

The activities and descriptions below are the core roles and responsibilities for the Mechanical Design function. This list is not exhaustive, and the company may assign additional roles and responsibilities as part of the duties of a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer.

Experience with the design and understanding of the assembly and rebuilding of food packaging and processing machinery is preferable.

You will need to have led a small team and demonstrate leadership skills. The role reports to the Drawing Office Manager and involves conducting daily reviews with your team and weekly updates to the Drawing Office Manager and occasionally the Senior Management team. Besides management responsibilities, you will need the following technical, administrative, and customer-facing experience:

• SolidWorks proficiency for producing parts, assemblies, and drawings
• AutoCAD / DraftSight skills
• Knowledge of packaging machines
• Machine building experience
• Capability to carry out all stages of the machine design process
• Assessing project requirements
• Undertaking relevant research and testing
• Working through concepts and calculations
• Liaising with customers
• Modeling and detailed drawing skills
• Ability to perform calculations for sizing motors, gearboxes, shafts, belts, etc.
• Coordination with outside suppliers
• Familiarity with machinery directives for machine design
• Knowledge of servo motor control and automation equipment
• Understanding of gears, cams, and mechanisms
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical engineering design
• Proficiency with Office tools, especially Excel for BOMs
• Experience with special projects
• Confidence and ability to present designs and ideas to all levels
• Methodical approach with attention to detail
• Enthusiastic and self-motivated attitude

• Resourcefulness in interrogating legacy drawings and BOMs in various formats
• Ability to perform reverse engineering when required
• Willingness to undertake occasional international travel
