OLG Recruitment are currently looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for our client located in Gainsborough. This role is temp to perm; you will be working full-time hours on-site.

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will lead a small project team, focusing on designing robotic packaging systems. We seek a capable, creative, and self-motivated professional who can mentor junior engineers and lead the design process from concept to production. You will also conduct design reviews with the team and customer to ensure technical requirements are met.

Responsibilities

1. Understand and implement the technical requirements and scope of work for each project.
2. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, production, and customers effectively.
3. Manage multiple projects, adhering to schedules and budgets.
4. Design robot cells, end-of-arm tooling, conveyors, and feeders.
5. Select and specify robots and other equipment.
6. Perform sizing calculations for motors, gearboxes, shafts, belts, etc.
7. Create detailed and assembly drawings of custom equipment.
8. Test and troubleshoot equipment.
9. Support production and installation teams.

Required Skills and Knowledge

1. Proficiency with 3-D parametric modelling software (SolidWorks preferred) and 2-D AutoCAD.
2. Knowledge of BS308 drafting standards.
3. Familiarity with the EU machinery directive.
4. Understanding of mechanisms involving bearings, pneumatic systems, electric motors, servos, sensors, and structural design.
5. Experience with robotic cell design and safety standards.
6. Knowledge of fabrication and machining processes.
7. Understanding of automated industrial processes.

Qualifications

A solid background in mechanical engineering principles, gained through a bachelor’s degree or a recognized apprenticeship program, is required. The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in a similar industry, and be looking to advance from a designer role.
