Job summary

Babcock in Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth, seeks a Senior Metallurgy & Materials Engineer to support the safety, performance and availability of naval assets. You’ll lead testing, analysis and failure investigations to ensure integrity of critical components.

Apply advanced materials knowledge in lab and operational settings, mentor colleagues and deliver solutions that directly contribute to national defence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Materials Science, Metallurgy or related engineering discipline.
• Experience in UKAS-accredited laboratory environments preferred.
• Knowledge of corrosion inspection, testing methods and material certification.

Responsibilities

• Lead testing, metallurgical analysis and failure investigations to assess integrity and performance.
• Provide specialist advice on material selection, fabrication and heat treatment.
• Manage routine and specialist testing programmes and mentor staff in a UKAS-accredited lab.
• Contribute to safety-critical projects, audits and supplier quality activities.
• Support continuous improvement and compliance with standards and regulations.
