Job summary

AERIUS Marine UK, a subsidiary of AERIUS Marine GmbH and part of the Heinen & Hopman Group, seeks a Principal Systems Engineer to lead the design of shipboard refrigeration systems for naval and commercial vessels. You will drive technical authority across chilled water plants and onboard refrigeration applications, engaging in concept development, bids, and detailed design.

You will ensure compliance with UKCA, Lloyd’s Register and other classification rules, and manage hazard assessments,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Marine Engineering or closely related discipline.
• Master’s degree preferred for senior technical authority roles.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership is highly advantageous.
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and marine regulatory frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of marine refrigeration plants, including chilled water systems for naval and commercial vessels.
• Oversee design of refrigeration systems for onboard cold store applications and ensure compliance with UKCA and classification society rules.
• Provide engineering governance across concept, detailed design, build, FAT/SAT, and commissioning.
• Support bids with technical input and participate in design reviews and workshops.
• Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
