Job summary

Mapbox is hiring a Software Development Engineer III for the Maps API in the United Kingdom. You will balance rapid development with reliability while scaling services to handle billions of requests daily.

You’ll work across application code, microservices, and data pipelines to deliver maps and location data at scale. You will lead and mentor engineers, design scalable systems, and reinforce a culture of operational excellence, testing, and documentation.

Qualifications

• 8-10+ years of experience building scalable high-volume backend services.
• Proficiency with Python, NodeJS, and native AWS (CDK, ECS, Step Functions, Lambda, S3, RDS, CloudWatch, CloudFront).
• Experience building mapping and geospatial related products.
• Familiarity with code versioning tools, such as GitHub.

Responsibilities

• Lead your engineering team to identify and scope out well-defined tasks.
• Execute on the scope and be accountable for delivering on time with quality.
• Design systems and make architectural decisions to support rapid growth.
• Mentor peers through 1:1s, design/code reviews, and guidance for growth.
• Promote operational excellence by testing, monitoring, documenting, and on-call support.
• Reduce technical debt, share knowledge, and optimize performance and velocity.
• Foster collaboration, transparency, inclusion, and data-driven decisions.
