Position Overview:
Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs designed to mitigate risks and control risk-related costs across the company. Champion the creation and maintenance of a clean, safe, and healthy work environment, ensuring the highest standards of employee well-being and organizational safety.
Essential Job Duties:
- Develop, implement, and manage accident prevention programs across distribution, transportation, and other divisions.
- Provide OSHA compliance and safety management programs.
- Plan and conduct biannual safety skill-building sessions.
- Supervise and evaluate managers to ensure adherence to safety procedures.
- Implement data-driven safety initiatives that deliver measurable improvements in safety performance.
- Establish and maintain key safety metrics, reporting systems, and accountability measures.
- Ensure OSHA compliance through regular program reviews, encompassing PSM, LOTO, HAZCOM, and PIT standards.
- Provide monthly updates to company leadership on loss data and safety performance.
- Collaborate with local emergency services and regulatory agencies to ensure preparedness and compliance.
- Educate employees on safe work practices, hazard recognition, and accident prevention through various platforms or in-person meetings.
- Develop and execute safety training programs for drivers while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local fleet operation regulations.
- Partner with plant operations teams, managers, and supervisors to integrate safety into daily workflows and mentor operational leaders to foster safety ownership within their teams.
- Implement a drug and alcohol testing program for all commercial vehicle drivers in Massachusetts.
- Investigate and analyze vehicular accidents as well as employee injuries and incidents.
- Review incident trends and root causes, introducing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Launch and oversee a safe driving awards program.
- Ensure a clean and hazard-free workplace, minimizing injuries and addressing workers’ compensation claims effectively.
- Design and sustain emergency response plans for all company locations.
- Train employees to respond effectively to fire, hazardous material, medical, and other emergencies.
- Manage and oversee the annual safety budget.
Requirements:
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of Workers Compensation, Federal and State Safety laws.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of OSHA, DOT, EPA, and other regulatory regulations.
- Ability to maintain a culture of open, honest communication.
- Demonstrated experience driving transformative safety programs with measurable results.
- Ability to align multiple sites and business units under one cohesive safety strategy.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, negotiating skills, and presentation skills.
- Understanding of ergonomics and behavior-based safety.
Education/Experience/Training:
- BA/BS in safety or related field.
- 5+ years’ experience in a similar role (primarily DC/Transportation/heavy manufacturing).
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional).
