Job summary

Sigmar Recruitment is looking for a Maintenance Electrician to maintain electrical systems across a large campus and student accommodation.

You will carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs, diagnose faults, and support health and safety checks in academic buildings, residences and plant rooms. The role is foot-mobile across campus, with a salary of £38,000–£42,000, up to 40 days’ annual leave, a generous pension, overtime opportunities and ongoing training.

Qualifications

• A recognised Level 3 electrical qualification is required.
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification – BS 7671 is required.
• Experience in maintenance electrician roles, ideally in commercial premises, education, healthcare, residential or student accommodation.

Responsibilities

• The role may involve working in occupied student accommodation and responding to urgent maintenance issues, particularly during peak periods.
• The buildings are located across a large campus; the role will be foot mobile and physically active.

About Your New Job

As a Maintenance Electrician, you will be responsible for the safe and effective maintenance of electrical systems across the campus and student accommodation facilities.

• Diagnosing and repairing electrical faults in academic buildings, residences, communal areas and plant rooms.
• Maintaining systems including lighting, emergency lighting, small power, distribution boards, access control and other building services equipment.
• Supporting statutory compliance, health and safety checks and the safe operation of campus facilities.
• Working with other maintenance disciplines and specialist contractors when required.
• Providing a professional and helpful service to students, staff and visitors.
• The role may involve working in occupied student accommodation and responding to urgent maintenance issues, particularly during peak periods.
• The buildings are located across a large campus so this role will be foot mobile and requires you to be physically fit.

Requirements

• A recognised Level 3 electrical qualification, such as an NVQ or City & Guilds qualification in Electrical Installation, Electrical Maintenance or a related discipline.
• A current
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification – BS 7671 .
• Relevant experience as a maintenance electrician, ideally within commercial premises, education, healthcare, residential, facilities management or student accommodation.
• Good knowledge of electrical maintenance, fault-finding and safe isolation procedures.
• An understanding of health and safety requirements, including risk assessments and permit-to-work systems.
• The ability to communicate professionally with colleagues, contractors, students and other building users.
• A proactive approach and the ability to manage maintenance tasks safely and efficiently.

Desirable qualifications and experience

• Experience working in a live, occupied environment.
• Asbestos Awareness and relevant health and safety training.
• Experience using a computerised maintenance management system.
