Job summary

Vincent Gurney Ltd invites a skilled Quantity Surveyor (M&E) to lead commercial activities on mechanical and electrical projects in Birmingham. You will own valuations, cost control and final accounts, and build strong client and contractor relationships to maximise project value.

The role requires at least 3 years of QS experience in M&E or building services, with solid knowledge of JCT contracts and change management.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years' Quantity Surveying experience on M&E projects.
• Experience with valuations, variations, cost control and final accounts.
• Strong contractual awareness and risk management.
• Qualification in Quantity Surveying; professional accreditation advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Take commercial responsibility for M&E projects from design through to final account.

• Prepare monthly valuations from site measurements and WIP reviews.
• Manage variations and change control to support commercial recovery.
• Agree final accounts and ensure timely payments per contracts.

• Collaborate with clients, contractors, suppliers and site teams.
• Support Commercial Manager and senior management; improve processes.

Job description

Job Title: Quantity Surveyor (M&E)

Location: Birmingham

Salary: £90,000+ Package

The Role

• Take commercial responsibility for M&E projects from early design through to practical completion and final account
• Maintain financial control across projects, including monthly valuations, cost reviews and job costing
• Prepare and submit monthly valuations following site measurements and work-in-progress reviews
• Manage variations, change control and associated commercial recovery
• Manage and agree final accounts and ensure payments are received in line with contract terms
• Review contracts prior to signing, identifying commercial risks, assumptions and caveats
• Build strong relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers and site teams
• Work closely with the Commercial Manager and senior management team
• Help improve commercial processes, controls and overall project performance

The Ideal Candidate

• Minimum 3 years' Quantity Surveying experience
• Previous M&E, building services or relevant construction experience
• Strong experience across valuations, variations, cost control and final accounts
• Commercially astute with a strong understanding of contractual and project risk
• Experience with JCT contracts from a client and/or subcontractor perspective
• Quantity Surveying or relevant construction qualification
• RICS, CIOB or ICES qualified/working towards accreditation would be advantageous
• Strong communication, organisation and client-facing skills
