Job summary

Hudson River Trading seeks a Senior Network Engineer to design, build and maintain our global low-latency trading network across 25 countries and 100 locations. You will own routing configuration, troubleshooting, and cross-team collaboration with Systems and Trading Operations.

You will interact with Arista and Cisco devices, work on high-performance networks, and contribute to both strategy and hands-on implementation, while expanding capacity and reliability.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related IT field.
• 5-10 years of relevant experience, preferably in low-latency and high-frequency trading environments.
• In-depth understanding of layer 2/3 network protocols; working knowledge of OSPF, BGP, PIM, IGMP.
• Experience managing Arista, Cisco, and other networking devices daily.
• Familiarity with low-latency microwave networks and/or optical transmission systems (Adva, Ciena) desirable.
• Experience in enterprise network design, capacity planning, and full lifecycle project management.
• Experience with packet decoding and analysis tools such as tcpdump and Wireshark.
• Excellent oral and written communication; strong technical documentation.
• Unix/Linux command line proficiency and networking stack familiarity.
• Excellent troubleshooting across LAN, multicast market data, and global WAN.
• Understanding of datacenter power and cooling, fiber optics cabling standards.
• Will to solve small technical problems in the field; strong collaborative skills.
• Familiarity with firewalls (Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet), VPNs and NAT.
• Familiarity with configuration management tools (Ansible or Salt).
• Familiarity with Python, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, GitHub; cloud networks (AWS/GCP/Azure).

Responsibilities

• Design and manage large environments to meet high-performance and availability requirements.
• Lead product selection and system design, routing configuration, and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with Systems and Trading Operations teams to build, manage, and monitor the network.
• Contribute to high-level strategy and the technical nitty-gritty of the global network architecture.
