Job summary

Salt is seeking a Senior Linux System Administrator with active DV clearance to join the security team in Reading, supporting a secure, large-scale big data platform for a critical national infrastructure program.

The role is permanent, onsite in Reading with 37.5 hours per week and a salary of £70,000–£100,000 plus a £5,000 DV allowance and a bonus of up to 10%. Applicants must hold valid DV clearance and UK residency.

Qualifications

• Active Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance required.
• Extensive Linux administration experience (RHEL/ Rocky Linux or similar).
• Experience with VMware vSphere/ESXi.
• Automation experience using Ansible or similar.
• Experience with CI/CD workflows and DevOps practices.
• UK resident and eligible to work; no visa sponsorship.
• On-site role with limited remote options.

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain and optimise Linux server environments across production and development platforms.
• Manage VMware vSphere/ESXi infrastructure, including virtual machines, resource allocation and host configuration.
• Develop and maintain automation using Ansible or equivalent tools to streamline deployments, configuration and routine tasks.
• Develop and maintain Bash and shell scripts.
• Troubleshoot complex Linux, networking, storage, permissions and performance issues.
• Support secure IT infrastructure and CI/CD environments.
• Support interoperability with Windows Server environments where required.
• Contribute to continuous improvements across a highly secure big data platform.

Senior Linux System Administrator – DV Security Clearance (London or Reading)

Employment: Permanent

Location: Reading

Salary: £70,000–£100,000, plus a £5,000 DV allowance and a bonus of up to 10%

Working pattern: Onsite, with the option to work from home every other Friday

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

An opportunity is available for a DV Cleared Senior Linux System Administrator to join a specialist security team supporting a secure, large-scale big data platform for a UK critical national infrastructure programme.

The platform supports a suite of cutting-edge cybersecurity and data science tools, with the team using DevOps methodologies to deliver continuous improvements in response to evolving security requirements.

Key Responsibilities
