Job summary

Markel Corporation in Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham is seeking a Senior Underwriter to lead the Life Science portfolio. You’ll manage the most complex renewals, steer underwriting strategy and act as a technical leader within the team.

You’ll build trusted broker relationships, ensure profitable renewals and contribute to portfolio growth while maintaining underwriting discipline. The role offers hybrid working, a competitive package and strong opportunities to develop others and influence

Qualifications

• Strong underwriting experience in Life Sciences, Property & Casualty, or Commercial Combined.
• Excellent broker relationship building and influential skills.
• Ability to mentor others and work collaboratively in a hybrid environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of complex Life Science renewal business.
• Own larger and higher-value accounts and negotiate renewals.
• Support portfolio growth while maintaining underwriting discipline.
• Build and strengthen broker relationships.
• Coach and mentor less experienced underwriters and act as a technical referral point.
