Job summary

University of Nottingham Libraries is seeking a Senior Library Advisor for Discovery & Access Metadata. The role focuses on cataloguing and classifying new resources across the library network and supporting researchers to deposit their work in the repository.

You will provide guidance on publisher requirements, copyright and Open Access policies, and manage electronic handling of PhD theses. The team operates on a rota, with hybrid work between home and office.

Qualifications

• Experience in cataloguing and classification of library resources.
• Ability to advise on publisher requirements, copyright and OA policy.
• Experience supporting researchers to deposit articles, theses and chapters in repositories.
• Wamiliarity with electronic management of PhD theses is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Take day-to-day responsibility for cataloguing across our library network.
• Support researchers to deposit journal articles, conference papers, books and chapters in our repository.
• Advise on publisher requirements, copyright and the university's Open Access Policy.
• Work with colleagues across University of Nottingham Libraries on rota-based tasks.

We are looking for a new colleague to join our Discovery and Access Team at University Park and King’s Meadow Campuses. It is part of the Content & Discovery Section of University of Nottingham Libraries. The university is one of the biggest in the UK with campuses in China and Malaysia.

As one of five Senior Library Advisers, you will take day-to-day responsibility for cataloguing and classifying new resources across our library network and support researchers to deposit their journal articles, conference proceedings, books and book chapters in our repository, including advising them on publisher requirements, copyright and the university’s Open Access Publications Policy. You will undertake procedures for the electronic management of PhD theses.

The team’s work is organised on a rota basis. At times, you will need to work independently and work with colleagues across other areas of University of Nottingham Libraries.

Applicants will be tested to see if they have the potential to learn cataloguing and classification and the ability to find information about scholarly publications on websites.

This is a full-time permanent position with predicted start date 1st Nov 2026. Hours of work are 36.25 per week, Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4 pm.
