Job description

In-House Senior Legal Counsel | 5+ PQE | Conflicts & Risk | Birmingham

BCL Legal is pleased to be partnering with a leading global law firm to recruit a Senior Legal Counsel into its highly regarded Office of the General Counsel (OGC) team, based in Birmingham.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified lawyer with a strong background in legal risk and conflicts to join a high-performing in-house team within a global, forward-thinking legal environment. This is a permanent role offering hybrid working and the chance to work at the heart of the firm's legal risk function.

The Role:

As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders across the business. You'll provide expert legal guidance with a focus on conflicts of interest, confidentiality, and wider regulatory and compliance matters.

Key responsibilities include:
· Advising on complex legal conflicts and confidentiality issues across the firm's international offices, including application of US conflicts rules
· Supporting and supervising the firm's conflicts team, including handling escalations and providing technical guidance
· Reviewing client terms and advising on bespoke conflicts provisions
· Advising on own-interest conflicts, reputational risk, and business intake criteria
· Leading on internal investigations related to conflicts issues
· Delivering training to legal teams and business support professionals on conflicts and related risk topics
· Collaborating with the wider OGC team on strategic initiatives and contributing to firm-wide risk and compliance projects
· Influencing the design and implementation of conflict management systems and processes

Candidate Requirements:

To be considered for this opportunity, you will ideally have:
· 5+ years' PQE and a current practising certificate
· Strong experience advising on conflicts of interest and confidentiality, ideally gained within a law firm or similar professional services environment
· A sound understanding of legal and regulatory risk within an international context
· Strong communication skills and the ability to influence and challenge senior stakeholders constructively
· A commercial, strategic mindset with the ability to manage competing priorities and work under pressure
· A collaborative approach and strong relationship-building skills across teams and jurisdictions

Benefits:

· Competitive salary and benefits package
· Flexible hybrid working arrangement
· Opportunity to work in a key in-house role at the centre of legal operations in a global law firm
· High-quality work and exposure to complex international issues in a supportive and inclusive team

This is an excellent opportunity for a confident and experienced risk/conflicts lawyer looking to take on a senior in-house role with real impact.
