The successful candidate will join a small team of academic and professional services colleagues in the School, led by the Head of Department and the Director of Research. A collegiate approach and strong commitment to team working are essential.
The School has historically focused on education but is now implementing a phased start to research. The advertised post will support the School's strategy within a strong cross-disciplinary culture across the University of Essex. Research will build on existing strengths and explore opportunities related to the on-campus 4-star hotel, aiming to identify new research questions that define the School’s research identity. Generating external income to support research, knowledge transfer, and preparing for REF2028 submissions are key components of this strategy. The Senior Lecturer (ASER) will contribute significantly to the School’s research strategy and REF2028 submission.
The role also involves supporting teaching and learning activities in hospitality, events, and tourism management for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
You will have or be close to completing a relevant doctoral degree, with professional experience and practice in higher education teaching. A strong track record of published academic work recognized internationally, along with a clear publication plan for future REF submissions, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate effectiveness in undergraduate and postgraduate education, including organization, leadership, and management of specific aspects of provision.
