Job summary

Bury Council is recruiting an experienced safeguarding professional to join the Quality Assurance and Safeguarding Service as Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO). The role provides expert advice, oversight of allegations involving adults working with children, and leadership to ensure timely, proportionate safeguarding decisions across partners.

Hybrid working is offered, with a requirement to attend the office and partner meetings at least three days per week to support effective

Qualifications

• A recognised Social Work qualification and registration with Social Work England or equivalent.
• Minimum of four years' post-qualifying experience within Children’s Services.
• Significant safeguarding experience and risk management.
• Understanding of relevant legislation and safeguarding procedures.
• Experience chairing meetings and working in a multi-agency environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional advice to employers, schools, and voluntary organisations on safeguarding allegations.
• Liaise with police, children's social care, education settings, and other agencies during enquiries.
• Manage allegation processes and chair meetings to monitor investigations.
• Deliver safeguarding training and awareness sessions for the children's workforce and partners.
• Analyse trends and learning to strengthen safeguarding across the partnership.
• Contribute to quality assurance through auditing, reporting, and improvement actions.
• Support safer working practices and safeguarding cultures within organisations.
