Job summary

Contechs Consulting in Reading seeks a Senior Technician - Analytical Science on a 12-month contract to support our food science laboratory. You will perform routine analyses and report results in accordance with quality standards.

The role focuses on HPLC/IC analysis with exposure to GC, GC‑MS, GC‑FID, LC‑MS and wet chemistry, and may involve training in these methods. You will operate basic lab equipment and use LIMS, ELN and Q-Pulse with cross-training across labs as needed.

Qualifications

  • Degree or HNC in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in chemical analysis and use of analytical instruments.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine analytical analyses and report results.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment as directed.
  • Use LIMS, ELN and Q-Pulse to manage data and documentation.
  • Train others in routine methods and ensure GMP/UKAS awareness.
  • Cross-train across laboratories as demand requires.

Senior Technician - Analytical Science

12 Month Contract

Based in Reading

  • Our Client are customer focused, science led and results driven.
  • Our Clients’ Food Sciences laboratory performs a wide range of analytical analyses for a variety of food, pharmaceutical and healthcare companies and supports the Company’s research and innovation.
  • The role at Senior Technician is to be responsible for performing a range of routine analyses ensuring that projects are completed effectively and meet the customer’s contractual agreements.
  • Schedule and perform chemical analysis and report work in accordance with the quality standards.
  • This role focuses on the analysis of products using techniques such as HPLC and IC and may also include training in GC, GC‑MS, GC‑FID, LC‑MS and Wet Chemistry methods.
  • The position will be primarily based at the Reading location although may require attendance of any of the Clients’ sites.
Primary Accountabilities / Responsibilities:
Technical
  • Provide high quality customer service at all times by ensuring effective organisation of assigned workload, integrity of analytical data generated and timely/accurate provision of results.
  • Perform a range of routine analysis using (enter name of techniques) under supervision of a senior member of staff.
  • To perform analytical work following validation protocols.
  • Operate basic lab equipment as directed.
  • Be proficient in the use of generic software packages including Laboratory’s LIMS system, ELN and Q-Pulse and a range of specific software packages required for the role such as OpenLab, Chromeleon, Chemstation, MassHunter and MassLynx.
  • Provide training in routine activities and methods.
  • Perform Lab admin and housekeeping duties as directed.
  • Will be expected to cross train and work in different laboratories if the demand is required.
QEHS
  • Work to the highest standards of safety and quality by ensuring that appropriate COSHHs, risk assessments and SOPs are understood and followed.
  • To complete assigned quality actions in a timely manner
  • Assist with the documentation of SOPs for simple equipment and tests and generation of Risk Assessments and COSHH
  • To maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment.
  • To understand and work to the requirements of GMP and UKAS.
  • Ensure training records are accurate.
Knowledge:
  • Educated to Degree / HNC level in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent relevant experience in a laboratory.
  • Good understanding of basic lab equipment
Experience:
  • Scientific understanding and ability to conduct chemical analysis in relevant area under supervision
  • Experience of working in a regulated environment
