Job summary

Deliveroo in London is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to own and operate the core compute and cloud platforms, including Kubernetes clusters, AWS networking, and IaC tooling. You will write production-grade automation, improve reliability, and partner with multiple engineering teams to scale infrastructure safely.

The role combines hands-on engineering with strategic platform improvements, emphasizing SRE practices, incident response, and mentoring colleagues across the org.

Qualifications

• End-to-end ownership of complex infra initiatives and architecture decisions.
• Hands-on Kubernetes production operations, cluster scaling and upgrades.
• Extensive AWS experience: networking, IAM, account structure, cost management.
• Proficiency in IaC and provisioning frameworks (Terraform).
• Solid software engineering in Go or Python for internal tooling.
• Familiarity with Kafka, gRPC, Postgres/MongoDB, Redis, CI/CD (GitHub Actions).
• Strong SRE foundations: incident response, fault tolerance, capacity planning.
• Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to hiring through interviews and tech talks.
• Excellent collaboration and communication across multiple teams and time zones.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end infra initiatives across Kubernetes, cloud infra, and networking.
• Break work into tasks with estimates and document decisions and component interactions.
• Design, deploy and operate scalable AWS systems; coordinate cross-team support.
• Lead technical improvements using data-driven prioritization and metrics.
• Build self-service tooling and IaC frameworks for safe environments.
• Provide code/design reviews and share knowledge via guides and talks.
• Lead on-call rotations, drive RCAs, and ensure incident follow-through.
• Advance platform reliability, runbooks, and developer productivity tooling.
• Support hiring by participating in interviews and tech talks.
