Job summary

RedTech Recruitment seeks an experienced Platform Engineer to join a specialist platform team responsible for infrastructure, tooling and automation enabling engineering teams to build, deploy and operate software effectively.

The role is hands-on with Kubernetes at its core, spanning container orchestration, CI/CD, IaC, observability and cloud-native technologies, with hybrid work and 2 days in the Cambridge office.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial experience with Kubernetes and production-grade clusters.
• Experience operating, troubleshooting and scaling Kubernetes in production environments.
• Understanding of Kubernetes networking, storage, RBAC and scheduling.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code and provisioning tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Experience with CI/CD technologies such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or Jenkins.
• Understanding of networking and security principles.
• Experience with source control systems.
• Strong troubleshooting skills to investigate logs and resolve platform issues.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Familiarity with Python, Bash or Go scripting is a bonus.
• Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, GitOps or service mesh technologies is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain and evolve Kubernetes platforms across multiple environments.
• Ensure applications can be deployed reliably and at scale.
• Collaborate with software teams to understand infrastructure needs for cloud-native development.
• Improve reliability, observability and performance of Kubernetes clusters.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support software delivery.

A fantastic opportunity for an experienced Platform Engineer to join a highly successful technology company working on complex, large-scale software systems. You will join a specialist platform team responsible for the infrastructure, tooling and automation that enables engineering teams to develop, deploy and operate software effectively. This is a hands-on role with Kubernetes at its core, offering the opportunity to work across container orchestration, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, observability and cloud-native technologies.

Location

Cambridge, 2 days per week in the office

Requirements for Platform Engineer

• Strong commercial experience working with Kubernetes
• Experience operating, troubleshooting and scaling Kubernetes clusters within production environments

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code and provisioning tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation

• Good understanding of networking and security principles

• Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to investigate logs, identify patterns and resolve complex platform issues
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Experience with scripting or programming languages such as Python, Bash or Go would be beneficial
• Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, GitOps or service mesh technologies would also be advantageous

• Develop and improve Infrastructure as Code using technologies such as Terraform or CloudFormation
• Automate operational processes and identify opportunities to improve the developer experience
• Support engineering teams with the effective use of cloud infrastructure
• Help transition new applications and services into production
• Embed security best practices into platform architecture and infrastructure
• Monitor platform components and ensure services meet performance and reliability requirements
• Evaluate relevant cloud-native technologies and introduce practical improvements to the platform
