Job summary

Inara in Leeds is seeking a Senior Android Engineer with strong Kotlin expertise to drive complex digital projects. You’ll work directly with clients, influence technical decisions, and help shape robust solutions for offline and high-latency environments.

You’ll develop across Android and desktop, collaborate on architecture and CI/CD, and mentor peers to raise engineering standards, all within a hybrid Leeds setup.

Senior Android Engineer (Kotlin) | Leeds | Hybrid

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Android Engineer who combines strong hands‑on Kotlin expertise with a genuine consultancy and client‑focused mindset.

You’ll be working on complex digital engineering projects where the problems aren’t always straightforward, including applications that need to operate reliably in disconnected, offline or high‑latency environments.

This is a role for someone who enjoys getting into the technical detail, but also wants to work directly with clients, influence technical decisions and help shape the wider solution.

What you’ll be doing

• Building high-quality applications using Kotlin* with a particular focus on Android
• Working with Kotlin Multiplatform and Compose Multiplatform to develop shared solutions across platforms
• Developing across Android and desktop, understanding where business logic can be shared and where platform‑specific implementations are required
• Designing and building applications that can operate reliably without consistent connectivity and synchronise effectively when connectivity is restored
• Working on solutions designed to perform effectively in high‑latency and challenging environments
• Contributing to technical architecture, design and engineering decisions
• Working closely with multidisciplinary teams including engineers, product and delivery specialists
• Engaging directly with clients to understand requirements, explain technical decisions and help shape the right solution
• Building strong CI/CD pipelines and maintaining robust Gradle configurations
• Championing automated testing and engineering quality throughout the development lifecycle
• Supporting and mentoring other engineers, helping to raise technical standards across the team
• Looking beyond the immediate technical delivery to identify ways to create additional value for clients

What we’re looking for

You’ll ideally have:

• Strong commercial experience developing with Kotlin
• Hands‑on experience with Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP)
• Experience with Compose Multiplatform
• Experience developing applications across Android and desktop platforms
• A strong understanding of shared business logic and platform‑specific implementations
• Experience designing applications that need to work in offline, disconnected or high‑latency environments
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD, Gradle and automated testing
• Experience contributing to technical design and architectural decisions
• Excellent communication skills and confidence working directly with clients and senior stakeholders
• Experience mentoring, supporting or technically guiding other engineers
• A genuine consultancy mindset and the ability to operate comfortably in ambiguous or complex environments
• Commercial awareness and an understanding of how engineering can contribute to wider client outcomes

The important bit… This isn't simply an Android development role

We’re looking for someone who can solve difficult engineering problems, communicate those solutions clearly and influence the people around them.

You might be deep in Kotlin and Compose one minute, working through how an application should synchronise data in a disconnected environment, and the next explaining the technical trade‑offs to a client or helping another engineer work through a difficult problem.

You’ll have genuine influence over how things are designed and delivered, rather than simply being handed a set of tickets to implement.
