Amber Labs, UK-based with hybrid work in Manchester (1 day on site), seeks a backend Java Engineer to strengthen a high-profile digital programme in a large government environment.

You will contribute to building robust, scalable backend services and collaborate across analysts, architects, QA, and developers to ensure quality and engineering excellence from the outset.

Qualifications

• Strong backend development experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Proficiency with Git and modern version control practices.
• Experience building and deploying applications using Docker.
• Good understanding of asynchronous messaging patterns and event-driven architectures.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment practices.
• Exposure to Kubernetes (K8s) and container orchestration.
• Experience with Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) integrations and file transfers.

Role Summary

Amber Labs is seeking a talented Java Engineer to support the delivery of a high profile digital programme within a large scale government environment. This role sits within an established multidisciplinary agile team and will play a key role in building robust, scalable backend services that support critical user facing platforms.

Working closely with Business Analysts, Architects, QA Engineers, and fellow Developers, you will contribute across the full development life cycle, delivering high quality solutions with a strong emphasis on engineering excellence from the outset.

This is an excellent opportunity for a backend-focused Java Engineer who thrives in collaborative environments and is passionate about building well-engineered, long-term solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Required Skills & Experience
