Job summary

Opus Resourcing Ltd is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in Cambridge with strong Java/Spring Boot and Kafka experience to join an innovative, early-stage SaaS start-up focused on renewable energy. The role offers remote or hybrid options for local candidates.

You will design and build a cloud-native platform connecting software, data and physical energy infrastructure, with emphasis on IoT, embedded devices, and edge computing. Collaboration across teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Strong Java and Spring Boot experience.
• Kafka or distributed systems experience including event-driven architectures and asynchronous messaging.
• Good knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes, including containerisation and cloud-native deployments.
• Experience developing resilient, scalable SaaS applications, ideally using AWS.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, automated testing and continuous delivery.
• Full Stack development experience, ideally with React.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable Java/Spring Boot microservices and APIs.
• Build reliable distributed systems using Kafka and event-driven architectures.
• Develop software supporting IoT connectivity, device integration and data processing.
• Contribute to device-to-cloud communication and integration with connected hardware.
• Work with Docker, Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies.
• Collaborate with engineers and product stakeholders on technical design, architecture and delivery.
• Contribute to code reviews, automated testing and continuous improvement.
