IBM Consulting UK FutureNow is seeking a Senior Java Developer to design and build high‑quality applications using Java/JEE and modern web technologies for public sector and defence clients. You’ll apply best‑practice engineering, participate in DevOps practices, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams.

The role emphasizes secure, reliable software delivery, with opportunities to mentor others and own specific technical areas depending on experience. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience developing applications using Java and JEE technologies.
• Knowledge of Java frameworks such as Spring.
• Understanding of web technologies, including JSP and Servlets.
• Familiarity with dependency injection, inversion of control, and aspect‑oriented programming.
• Awareness of functional programming ideas as applied in Java.
• Experience working with test‑driven development.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Java/JEE applications.
• Build web components using modern Java frameworks.
• Apply enterprise development practices such as DI, IoC, AOP, and testing.
• Develop secure, efficient data access with appropriate frameworks.
• Support integration with enterprise and legacy systems.
• Participate in DevOps‑aligned practices including CI/CD and version control.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues to maintain reliability.
• Collaborate with analysts, testers, and architects; coordinate on technical areas as needed.
