Job summary

Wolviston Management Services is seeking a Senior Java Developer to design, build and maintain enterprise Java applications. You will work directly with clients to translate requirements into robust technical solutions, ment or junior staff and collaborate with DevOps, QA and Product owners.

The role emphasizes modern Java stacks, cloud, containers, and AI-assisted tooling. The position is based in the United Kingdom with hybrid working and monthly office attendance in Newcastle or Edinburgh,

Qualifications

• Proven experience developing Java applications.
• Experience with Spring Boot, Spring Framework and Hibernate/JPA.
• Designing RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Strong software engineering principles and agile delivery.
• Proficiency with Git and modern workflows.
• Customer-facing consultancy experience is a plus.
• Experience in Financial Services, FinTech or Wealth Management is preferred.
• Exposure to AWS/Azure/GCP and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools and DevOps practices.

Salary: £70,000 - 75,000 per year

Requirements:

• Strong commercial experience developing applications using Java.
• Experience with modern Java frameworks including Spring Boot, Spring Framework, and Hibernate / JPA.
• Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles and best practices.
• Experience working within Agile software delivery environments.
• Proficiency with Git and modern development workflows.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with clients and stakeholders.
• Experience working in a customer-facing, consultancy, or stakeholder-driven environment.
• Experience working within Financial Services, Banking, FinTech, Insurance or Wealth Management environments.
• Previous consultancy or professional services experience.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Knowledge of containerisation technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Understanding of event-driven architecture and messaging technologies.
• Exposure to modern front-end frameworks and technologies.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT, Claude or similar technologies.
• Experience using AI to improve development efficiency, code quality and delivery outcomes.
• Exposure to AI-powered automation solutions.
• Experience integrating AI services, APIs or Large Language Models (LLMs) into applications.
• Interest in emerging AI technologies and their practical application within software development.
• Must be within a commutable distance of either Newcastle or Edinburgh, with office attendance required approximately once per month.
