Job summary

ARQ, a fast-growing fintech, is hiring a Backend Engineer in the United Kingdom. You will design and maintain scalable backend systems powering our cross-border money movement products.

You’ll work with a strong team to deliver secure, high-performing services that enable global financial inclusion. The role focuses on greenfield development and improving existing systems, building REST APIs and microservices, and evolving systems like card payments, treasury, and crypto liquidity using Java 25,

Qualifications

Fluent in backend development with Java
Bachelor's degree or above in CS/Math/Engineering
Strong communication skills in English (written and spoken)
Experience building complex products used in hypergrowth environments

Responsibilities

Greenfield development and improvement of existing systems
Build REST APIs and microservices for core fintech features
Evolve systems including card payments, treasury, transactions booking and crypto liquidity
Use Java/Spring Boot with PostgreSQL, emphasize clean code, TDD and CI/CD
