Job summary

ARQ, a fast-growing fintech, is seeking a Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems powering our products. You’ll work with a team to build secure, high-performing services for cross-border money movement.

You’ll focus on greenfield projects and evolving critical systems using Java-based stack (Spring Boot, REST APIs, PostgreSQL), with an emphasis on clean code, TDD, and CI/CD. Hybrid work with 3-4 days in the office in London.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable experience in Backend development with Java.
• Bachelor's Degree (or above) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or other Engineering / Science disciplines.
• Strong communication skills in English (verbal and written).
• Track record of building complex products used in hypergrowth startups.

Responsibilities

• Develop greenfield backend features and improve existing systems.
• Build REST APIs and microservices for core fintech workflows.
• Work with Java backend and PostgreSQL, using Spring Boot for delivery.
• Maintain clean code with TDD, DDD and CI/CD practices.
