Job summary

Job Advert is seeking a Senior Backend Developer to design, build and optimise backend services at scale using Java, Spring Boot and AWS. This is a remote, contract role with ownership of core services and data security.

You will contribute to a microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and CI/CD pipelines, collaborating with platform teams to ensure reliability, performance and cost efficiency.

Qualifications

• Must have strong commercial experience designing and delivering backend systems at scale.
• Proficient in Java core concepts, concurrency, and performance optimization.
• Hands-on experience building RESTful APIs and microservices with Spring Boot, Spring Data, and Spring Security.
• Experience deploying and running backend apps on AWS (EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, S3, RDS).
• Familiar with CI/CD, containers, and infrastructure-as-code.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services in a microservices architecture.
• Develop high-performance, scalable backend code for large-scale workloads.
• Build data access layers using Spring Data and relational databases on AWS.
• Implement security controls and authentication/authorization with Spring Security and AWS services.
• Design and operate backend services on AWS focusing on reliability and cost efficiency.
• Collaborate with DevOps to define CI/CD pipelines and IaC strategies.
• Troubleshoot production issues and perform root cause analysis.
