Job summary

Pension Insurance Corporation (PIC) is seeking a Principal IT Systems Engineer to lead our IT Operations and Engineering team. This senior, hands-on role combines deep infrastructure expertise with cloud and platform engineering across on-premises and cloud environments.

You will shape enterprise platforms, mentor engineers and drive automation, security and resilience while acting as a technical authority and escalation point for the business.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in Infrastructure/Platform Engineering within a complex enterprise environment.
• Strong expertise in Azure and modern cloud technologies.
• Advanced automation and IaC skills (Terraform, PowerShell, Ansible).
• Deep knowledge of Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID.
• Strong understanding of platform engineering, CI/CD and observability.
• Experience influencing technical direction and engineering standards.
• Broad infrastructure knowledge across Windows, Linux, networking and enterprise platforms.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Financial Services or regulated environment experience.
• Docker and Kubernetes.
• Intune and SCCM.
• Hypervisor or hyperconverged infrastructure technologies.

Responsibilities

• Act as the senior technical authority and escalation point across infrastructure, cloud, identity and platform services.
• Provide technical leadership and deputise for the IT Systems Team Manager when required.
• Drive the design, resilience and continuous improvement of on-premises and cloud platforms.
• Lead root cause analysis and resolution of complex technical issues and major incidents.
• Influence engineering standards, architecture decisions and platform best practices.
• Develop automation, Infrastructure as Code and reusable platform capabilities.
• Provide technical oversight of third-party suppliers and solutions.
• Mentor engineers and champion secure, resilient and automation-first ways of working.
