Job description

The Senior IT Support Engineer is responsible for safeguarding the Club's technology environment and delivering high‑level technical support across two sites. This role combines hands‑on cyber‑security operations with 2nd and 3rd line technical support, ensuring the security, stability, and performance of all IT systems for approximately 250 users.

Cyber Security
  • Investigate and analyse security alerts, escalating and responding as required.
  • Provide ongoing security protection across all IT systems, ensuring a robust and proactive security protection.
  • Maintain the Palo Alto firewall, including the creation, modification, and removal of security rules.
  • Liaise with external suppliers to deliver phishing simulations, monitor results, and support ongoing user training.
  • Evaluate vulnerabilities across the network and apply patches to servers, endpoints, and infrastructure devices.
  • Support the organisation's progress towards Cyber Essentials certification by implementing required controls and best practice.
Technical Support
  • Deliver 2nd and 3rd line technical support for all devices and users across the business.
  • Provide support for a range of business‑critical applications.
  • Configure and maintain VMware environments.
  • Manage and support Windows‑based servers.
  • Provide technical support across Windows 11 and Apple macOS devices.
  • Maintain Cisco Meraki network switches, including patch cabling and fibre connections.
  • Support the Tripleplay IPTV system.
  • Administer and support Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and Azure environments.
  • Manage Barracuda email and web security platforms.
  • Set up, manage, and maintain user accounts within Active Directory and Office 365.
  • Liaise with external third‑line support providers (e.g., Palo Alto, Meraki, Sky WiFi, Barracuda, Tripleplay).
  • Maintain and troubleshoot the internal TCP/IP network.
  • Manage company mobile phones (currently iPhone).
  • Maintain and develop IT documentation, procedures, and policies.
Matchday
  • Provide on‑site IT support for media teams and photographers, ensuring reliable wireless connectivity for members, media, and staff.
  • Support and troubleshoot the IPTV system during events.
  • Assist with basic till system issues and ensure concession areas remain operational.
  • Deliver IT support for broadcasters and media partners including BBC and Sky.
  • Participate in a rota for weekend on‑call cover and late evening matchday support alongside other IT team members.
Other
  • Carry out practical tasks when required, including running temporary or permanent network cables for concession stands, hospitality areas, or event spaces.
  • Replace or reposition equipment such as TVs, screens, and AV devices used throughout the venue.
  • Perform minor hardware fixes and physical installation work, which may occasionally involve working at height using ladders or accessing equipment rooms and ceiling spaces.
  • Support operational teams during setup or breakdown for events by ensuring technical equipment is installed safely and correctly.
Requirements

Essential

  • Relevant IT qualification (e.g. CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+) or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in IT or cyber security
  • Proven experience providing 2nd and 3rd line technical support within a multi‑site organisation
  • Experience evaluating vulnerabilities and applying security patches across devices and systems
  • Experience working with firewalls, including rule management
  • Experience troubleshooting a range of hardware and software issues
  • Strong understanding of cyber‑security principles, threats, and best practice
  • Ability to investigate and analyse security alerts and logs
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure, particularly during live events or matchdays
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with a logical, methodical approach
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support users at all levels

Desirable

  • Vendor‑specific certifications (e.g., Palo Alto ACE/PCNSA, Microsoft Azure/M365, VMware VCP, Cisco Meraki)
  • Training or experience aligned with Cyber Essentials or other security frameworks.
  • Experience supporting media or event‑based environments
  • Understanding of IPTV systems and broadcast‑related technologies
  • Familiarity with event‑based connectivity requirements (e.g., media teams, photographers, broadcasters)
