The role
We're looking for a talented Senior IT Engineer to join our team. You'll work closely with our Director of IT and Information Security, playing a pivotal role in building and shaping ourinternal IT function. Your contributions will be crucial, adding significant value to our operations.
You will work with various teams across Opencast to identify pain points and recommend improvements to enhance the end-user experience.
We are looking for someone with excellent problem-solving skills, a proactive approach to technology management, and a passion for providing high-quality systems and support.
As part of this role, you will be required to align with, and adhere to, Opencast's policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Information Security and Quality.
Essential experience
We'll want you to demonstrate experience in delivering high-quality IT support and contributing to a robust internal technology environment. You don't need to have had the job title of "Senior IT Engineer" before.
In your CV and interview, please show how you have:
• Supported users effectively, both remotely and in person, within defined service levels
• Worked with an ITSM platform to manage and prioritise requests
• Analysed and resolved complex IT issues (hardware and software), including escalation at a senior support level
• Performed root cause analysis to reduce repeat issues and improve service
• Followed procedures and contributed to maintaining or improving documentation
• Worked with third-party suppliers or partners to manage escalated technical issues
• Maintained and secured IT systems through patching and system hardening
• Written or maintained technical documentation and standard operating procedures
• Helped develop the capability of colleagues by sharing knowledge and offering support
As well as technical capability, there are core skills you'll need to be successful in this role.

• Communicate clearly with users and colleagues to understand their needs and explain solutions
• Contribute to a collaborative and inclusive team culture
• Stay informed about emerging technologies and how they could benefit internal IT environments
In the interview, we'll ask you to describe how you approach technical support, continuous improvement, and collaboration. If you're successful in the first stage, we may ask you to discuss a scenario that explores your problem-solving and technical decision-making.
Desirable experience
Some areas of experience are not essential but relevant to the role:
• Experience using and administering Atlassian suite of products, including Jira and Confluence
• Experience administering Salesforce
• Experience with ERP solutions - any exposure to Workday would be helpful
• A strong understanding of cyber security principles and best practices
Salary
Salary range: £35,000-£40,000
