Job summary

Centrica Energy Storage + is seeking a Senior Instrument Technician to ensure safe, compliant operation of its instrumentation, control and safety systems across its assets. You will support operations and maintenance teams, drive reliability, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

The role requires a time-served apprenticeship, CompEx, and experience in gas processing or COMAH environments. You will work with CMMS, DCS/PLC systems and assist with cyber security and safety

Qualifications

• Essential: Time-served Instrumentation or Control Technician apprenticeship.
• Essential: Significant experience within gas processing, oil and gas, petrochemical, power generation or similar COMAH environments.
• Essential: Strong fault-finding and maintenance experience on instrumentation and control systems.
• Essential: Experience working with DCS, PLC, Fire & Gas and ESD systems.
• Essential: Familiarity with CMMS maintenance systems.
• Essential: Understanding of Management of Change and process safety principles.
• Essential: CompEx Certification.

Responsibilities

• Instrumentation Maintenance: Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on instrumentation and control equipment; maintain transmitters, analysers, control valves, shutdown systems, fire and gas systems; diagnose and rectify faults; inspection, calibration and testing.
• Control Systems: Carry out low-complexity modifications on DCS systems, Fire & Gas systems, compressor control systems; implement alarm setpoints; support software modifications and system upgrades.
• Asset Reliability & Continuous Improvement: Provide technical support for risk management; participate in MoC reviews and hazard assessments; identify reliability improvements; assist with fault finding and performance optimisation.
• Maintenance Management: Execute CMMS-generated work orders; maintain records; support work planning and scheduling; manage system-related maintenance activities.
• Systems & Cyber Security: Support OT Cyber Security Engineer with system maintenance, network maintenance, cyber detection and response; manage site engineering laptops; ensure backups and critical spares.
• Leadership & Contractor Management: Deputise for Lead Instrument/Control Technician; supervise vendors; provide guidance to colleagues; promote safety and technical excellence.
• Safety & Compliance: Work safely per rules and regulations; support process safety initiatives; ensure permits and risk assessments; maintain competency.
