Responsibilities

Job description

A global payments technology business is looking for a Senior Infrastructure Specialist to help operate and modernise the technology ecosystem behind our business.

This is a hands-on senior role covering cloud, Microsoft technologies, networking, virtualisation, security, automation and production infrastructure. You’ll work across both corporate and highly available production environments, helping us move from traditional infrastructure management towards a more automated, observable and resilient infrastructure model.

What you’ll do

• Own and improve infrastructure across cloud, on-premise and hybrid environments
• Design and implement infrastructure improvements, not simply maintain existing systems
• Manage Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Active Directory / Entra ID and associated services
• Support virtualised and hyperconverged infrastructure
• Manage enterprise networking including routing, switching, firewalls, load balancing and WAFs
• Improve infrastructure through automation and Infrastructure as Code
• Build strong monitoring, observability and alerting across infrastructure services
• Own patching, vulnerability remediation, configuration and infrastructure hardening
• Support resilient, highly available systems including backup, recovery and disaster-recovery capabilities
• Maintain secure access, identity and infrastructure controls
• Support infrastructure running within a PCI-regulated payments environment
• Maintain clear infrastructure documentation, standards and operational runbooks
• Evaluate new cloud, infrastructure, security and automation technologies
• Work closely with DevOps, Security, Engineering and Technical Operations
• Act as a senior technical escalation point and provide technical guidance to other engineers

What we’re looking for

• 5+ years' experience in infrastructure, systems engineering or a similar role
• Strong experience with Microsoft infrastructure, including Windows Server and Active Directory
• Good knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Entra ID
• Experience with VMware / virtualisation and hyperconverged infrastructure
• Experience with firewalls, WAFs and load balancing, ideally including F5
• Experience supporting cloud or hybrid infrastructure
• Practical knowledge of PowerShell or other infrastructure automation
• Exposure to Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform or equivalent
• Experience with enterprise monitoring and observability platforms
• Strong understanding of infrastructure security, hardening, patching and vulnerability management
• Experience working in a highly available, security-sensitive production environment
• Experience in payments, financial services, PCI DSS or another regulated environment would be highly valuable

Nice to have

• Azure DevOps or similar CI/CD tooling
• Terraform / Ansible
• Containers or Kubernetes exposure
• Modern endpoint/device management such as Intune
• Zero Trust / modern identity architecture
• Experience modernising legacy infrastructure and reducing manual operational work
