Job summary

IMT Resourcing Solutions is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer in Gloucester. The role focuses on hands-on ownership of enterprise infrastructure, driving technical improvements and acting as a senior escalation point within a collaborative IT team.

You will design, implement and maintain secure infrastructure across multiple sites, including Azure, network, virtualization and storage, while ensuring resilience and security compliance.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in senior infrastructure engineering or similar roles.
• Strong skills in Microsoft Azure, on-premise Microsoft infrastructure, and enterprise systems admin.
• Experience with VMware and hybrid cloud environments.
• Familiarity with ITIL processes and change management.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain secure, scalable IT infrastructure across sites.
• Support enterprise networking, virtualization, server infrastructure and Azure cloud.
• Lead delivery of infrastructure projects from design to implementation.

Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Location: Gloucester (Hybrid Working)

Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 + Excellent Benefits

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer to play a key role in supporting, developing and enhancing their global IT infrastructure. This is a senior technical position, ideal for someone who enjoys remaining hands‑on whilst taking ownership of enterprise infrastructure projects, driving technical improvements and acting as a senior escalation point across the IT function.

Working within a collaborative IT team, you'll help ensure business‑critical systems remain secure, resilient and highly available while contributing to the future direction of the organisation's infrastructure.

What you’ll be doing

• Designing, implementing and maintaining secure, scalable IT infrastructure across multiple sites.
• Supporting enterprise networking, virtualisation, server infrastructure and Microsoft Azure cloud services.
• Leading the technical delivery of infrastructure projects, including upgrades, migrations and new technology implementations.
• Acting as the senior technical escalation point for complex infrastructure issues and major incidents.
• Performing root cause analysis and implementing long‑term improvements to increase resilience and performance.
• Supporting disaster recovery planning, business continuity testing and infrastructure resilience initiatives.
• Working closely with internal stakeholders to understand technical requirements and deliver robust infrastructure solutions.
• Collaborating with third‑party vendors and service providers to support infrastructure services and project delivery.
• Ensuring infrastructure complies with security best practice and standards including ISO 27001, GDPR and Cyber Essentials.
• Identifying opportunities to modernise infrastructure through automation, cloud adoption and emerging technologies.

What we’re looking for

• Significant experience in senior infrastructure engineering or technical infrastructure roles.
• Strong expertise across Microsoft infrastructure, networking, virtualisation and enterprise systems administration.
• Proven experience with Microsoft Azure and hybrid cloud environments.
• Experience supporting VMware environments.
• Strong understanding of enterprise networking, storage, backup and disaster recovery solutions.
• Experience delivering infrastructure projects from design through to implementation.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues.
• Knowledge of infrastructure security, patch management and vulnerability remediation.
• Familiarity with ITIL processes and change management principles would be beneficial.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and non‑technical teams.

Desirable Certifications

• Microsoft Azure certifications (Azure Administrator or equivalent)
• VMware certifications
• CompTIA Security+
• ITIL Foundation or equivalent
