The Senior Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for managing and supporting on-premise infrastructure for clients, with a focus on firewalls, networking (switches and wireless technologies), virtualization platforms (ESXi and Hyper-V), and Windows Server environments.
You will also handle backup and disaster recovery solutions using Veeam and will have a working knowledge of cloud technologies such as Azure or AWS. As this is a customer-facing role, strong communication skills are essential.
You will also be responsible for managing a direct report and contributing to leadership and project delivery, with the potential to grow into a management role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage, maintain and support on-premise infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, wireless networks, Windows Server roles (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, NTFS), and virtualization platforms (ESXi, Hyper-V).
- Provide leadership and guidance to a junior team member, overseeing their development and performance.
- Administer and support backup and disaster recovery solutions, primarily using Veeam whilst leveraging the cloud for offsite solutions.
- Deliver expert-level troubleshooting and resolution of issues related to networking, server infrastructure, and virtualization.
- Work closely with each department to understand their requirements and ensure infrastructure solutions meet their business needs.
- Provide support for cloud-based environments, with a basic working knowledge of Azure or AWS.
- Participate in the design and implementation of infrastructure projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of the infrastructure, configurations, and procedures.
- Ensure security best practices are implemented across on-premise environments, with a particular focus on firewalls and network segmentation.
- Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively, ensuring clients understand the impact of technology decisions.
- Develop and grow your leadership and management skills as part of a business objective for career progression into management roles.
Key Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience working in on-premise infrastructure environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with firewalls (configuration, management, and troubleshooting) and networking technologies (switches, wireless networks).
- Expertise in virtualization platforms, including VMware ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V.
- Proficient in administering and supporting Windows Server environments (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, NTFS).
- Working knowledge of Veeam for backup and disaster recovery solutions.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex infrastructure issues.
- Excellent communication skills, with experience working directly with clients.
- Leadership experience, either through people management or delivering projects in a lead capacity.
- A desire for career progression into management, with the opportunity to advance within the company.
- Experience with hybrid cloud infrastructure (on-premise to cloud integrations).
- Certifications such as CCNA, VCP, or Microsoft Certified.
- Familiarity with automation and scripting to enhance operational efficiency.
